As we move into the heart of Q2, the digital landscape is undergoing a foundational shift. We’re seeing a move away from traditional discovery-based algorithms toward high-intent, AI-driven ecosystems that prioritise utility and direct conversation.

We’re particularly excited to be heading to Shoreditch from 1 June for SXSW London. We'll be spending the week diving into these very themes, and looking forward to bringing those fresh perspectives back to your strategy. In the meantime, we’ve pulled together the key updates you need to know this month.

1. SUBSTACK

The Great Migration
High-growth creators are increasingly moving away from Substack's 10% revenue share toward flat-fee models like Ghost and beehiiv. For publishers reaching significant revenue milestones, switching to an adaptable, 0% platform fee structure allows for immediate reinvestment into growth. This move shifts the focus from simple discovery to building a scalable, owned media brand.

2. X (FORMERLY TWITTER)

X Unveils AI-First Ad Infrastructure
X has begun a phased rollout of a completely rebuilt advertising stack powered by xAI, replacing legacy ranking models with a system designed for semantic advertising. This overhaul allows ads to be served based on the deep context of live, real-time conversations. The redesigned Ads Manager prioritises simplicity and control, aiming for significantly higher ROI through better intent-matching.

3. REDDIT

Reminder Ads Enter General Availability
Reddit's new Reminder Ads allow users to opt-in to automated push notifications for product drops, premieres, or events. By adding a Remind Me CTA to standard ads, brands can trigger notifications 24 hours before and at the exact moment an event goes live. Early data shows this format drives significantly higher engagement by capturing users already active in niche communities.

4. LINKEDIN

New Ads Agency Certification Launches
LinkedIn has introduced its first-ever organisation-level Ads Agency Certification to validate partners with verified technical depth. Unlike individual badges, this requires proof of account infrastructure, Business Manager configuration, and invoicing readiness. This standardises accountability in a channel where B2B buying journeys are becoming increasingly complex.

5. GOOGLE

Looker Studio Rebrands Back to Data Studio
In a strategic reversal, Google has renamed Looker Studio back to Data Studio. The rebrand draws a clear line between exploratory, ad-hoc reporting and governed, enterprise modeling. While existing reports carry over automatically, the platform is now being positioned as a hub for the "Agentic Data Cloud," integrating conversational AI directly into your reporting workflows.

6. ANTHROPIC

Claude Launches Collaborative ‘Canvas’ Workspace
Anthropic has redesigned the Claude interface to move beyond simple chat, introducing a side-by-side workspace called ‘Canvas.’ This dedicated window allows for real-time, interactive editing of code and long-form content alongside the conversation. By providing a persistent space for co-creation, the update significantly reduces the friction of managing complex creative projects and versioning within the browser.

8. REGULATORY & POLICY

EU Rules Meta’s Age Verification ‘Ineffective’
The European Commission has preliminarily found Meta in breach of the Digital Services Act (DSA) for failing to adequately prevent underage access to its platforms. Regulators have flagged self-declared birth dates as an insufficient safeguard, likely forcing a transition toward mandatory, high-friction age-assurance technologies like facial estimation or dedicated verification apps.

EU to Abolish €150 Threshold in July 2026
The EU has confirmed the abolition of the €150 customs duty exemption for e-commerce imports, effective 1st July 2026. Every parcel entering the EU will now be subject to duty, regardless of value. To bridge the gap until the full 2028 Customs Data Hub launch, a mandatory €3 flat-rate duty per item category will be introduced to ensure tax compliance across all cross-border trade.
